Beat the heat!

"Summer is here! And it is evident for us to cope up with the heat alongside all the daily hush bush. It is very important to keep ourselves cool and well hydrated. But due to long work hours or other chores we may not be able to do the same. And here's when we tend to eat or drink whatever that is accessible at that point of time, which may or may not be good for health.  So here am trying to pen down some of my favorite ways to beat the heat this summer. Well honestly I am not a fan of aerated drinks or ice creams. 'A' because they tend to make you feel even more dehydrated and of course 'B' even though I love ice creams I cannot eat it every day.  So the things you will find below are the traditional, desi, home-style solutions which can be easily included in daily diet to keep yourself cool and hydrated throughout the summer!

1. Masala Chaas.

Well this comes as no surprise. But I love how refreshing it is for a summer afternoon. But instead of plain (and little boring) Chaas I just like to make a masala version of it. For which I simply ground some green chillies with coriander leaves, black salt and roasted Jeera. Then added the masala to the chaas and its ready! It's quite refreshing and a simple way to stay hydrated without compromising on health.

2. Kokum Sherbat.

This one has been there since ages. Again for a hot summer day if am not having the time to make masala chaas this is what I prefer. Kokum is supposed to have cooling properties and is a very nutritious fruit. You get these kokum sherbet cans easily in the market. Just got to take some water, add kokum extract as per your taste, some sugar, black salt and lots of ice. Mix and its ready. If you top it up with a pinch of roasted cumin powder it takes the sherbet to next level. It's even more tasty and refreshing again beacause of cooling properties of cumin. Plus basil seeds can be added for some added benefits! Well, Its a must try!

3. Bowl of Fruits.

Honestly for me nothing can beat a bowl of freshly cut fruits because I like them in their natural form as opposite to making juices with added sugar. And this season especially has a lot to offer as there is musk melon, water melon, grapes, kiwi, pineapple, oranges and strawberries easily available to help you beat the heat. They are full of natural juices and natural sweetness which is filling in a way. A bowlful of fruits even carried to the workplace and had before lunch will surely help you keep yourself hydrated.

4. Lemonade.

Given a fancy name this one is a staple and an 'all time favorite'. I mean who doesn't like lemonade, everyone has their own versions of it and so do I! Which is very simple. A jar of chilled water, juice of a lemon as per taste, a pinch of black salt, a teaspoon of sugar and a spoonful of ground cumin. This mix when topped with sabja seeds and pudina makes it unbeatable! And it's Done! Its cool, citrus, refreshing all at a time and of course one of the most basic and Desi ways to beat the heat.

5. Fruit infused water.

Drinking fruit-infused water has been one of my healthy habits ever since I read about it somewhere. It is also called as Detox Water. It's basically some water that we infuse with goodness of watery fruits and some fresh herbs. It is such a cool way (well, literally) to keep yourself hydrated. Honestly, there's no recipe, no measurements as such. Just take a big jar of water or any bottle that you are going to carry for the day. Then top it up with slices of fruits of your preference. Juicy watery fruits are preferable. It can be Lemon, Cucumber, Orange segments, Pineapple, Berries or even Watermelon. Make sure to cut the fruits in chunks and not in too thin slices.
You can get as creative with the choice of fruits and make many varieties and combinations of this infused water as per your taste. Some Mint leaves and Basil seeds can be added for extra freshness. Once mixed together, let it sit for a while so that water could absorb the taste of sliced fruits. Once ready, You can sip it on throughout the day.

6. Coconut Water.

Well, the last thing on my list but certainly on top of the preferences either when I am super busy or super lazy. when I don't want to take any efforts to make any Sherbat, chaas or even cut fruits, this serves the best as It's a natural beverage. Plus its fully loaded with several nutrients and is prabably the most delicious source of hydration.

Apart from these, one can anyway have Iced tea, Solkadhi, Khus sherbat, Juice of Sugarcane as per the liking but talking about the basic ones reminds me of the "Most important" thing that is to drink lots and lots of water throughout the day. Because everything else is supplementary and this one cannot be skipped at all!

So that's about it! Do let me know which one works for you the best and comment down if you have any such basic yet interesting summer solutions!

Thank you."
